New Mommy Decisions Decisions...breastfeeding yay or Nay

No matter what the differences are between new moms, we all have to decide how we'll nourish & feed our new bundle of joy.  Formula feed or breastfeed? Strictly nursing or bottle feeding? Supplementing or no supplementing??  It can be confusing and, for some, quite intimidating to settle in on what their final decision is regarding these choices..especially with formula ads in all those parents mags, babycenter emails and doctor's office ads.  Then there are the pushy lactation specialists in the hospital and their pushy veteran breastfeeding mom proteges.  Like I said it's confusing.  Well, unless you approach your pregnancy knowing already what your choice is. Personally, I chose to breastfeed.

Let me just keep it real and put it on out there that I chose to breastfeed for no other reason than all I need to feed my baby is within me & FREE FREE FREE!

While I chose breastfeeding, I did NOT choose to nurse my baby & that was my choice to make just like yours is your choice to make!  I chose to express my breast milk with a double electric Medela pump, store it in bottles or in the freezer in storage bags and feed my baby that way. This way I did not have to be around everytime my baby needed to be fed.  My baby got the benefits of breast milk but I got the benefit of the freedom that is usually afforded only by bottle feeding.

It was difficult at first while still on the hospital that 48 hours.  We supplemented while trying to get baby to latch on to stimulate milk production.  Trying to get her to latch on was quite the difficult task so I stopped! Yes, I stopped much to the dismay of those pushy lactation specialists. I stopped trying to latch her and fed her similac formula while pumping my breast to stimulate milk production and it worked like a charm...milk milk milk was everywhere!  After that first week alone I had enough milk stored for a whole month probably!

As previously mentioned, I chose to express my milk & bottle feed my baby.  I will admit expressing can be time consuming, but with a double pump I was pumping enough for two to three feedings everytime I pumped! I thought that was just wonderful! Nursing would have only allowed me to feed my baby for that feeding.

Needless to say, I later established a latch with my little one & she may nurse from time to time...but I stand my decision to express my milk! I also stand by breast being BEST for our little ones.  Every other animal does it & humans should too.

Mommy's body is baby's natural habitat & therefore the best source of your baby's nutrients.  There is something to be said about that.  There will never be a recall on breast milk! It's free & lasts much longer than formula when storing.

Breast is BEST but your choice is YOUR choice!

The debut...

This is our princess, her highness, Trinity Noelle at birth weighing in at 6lbs, 5ounces, 20 inches on 2/19/2012.

I am late with this post but I have figured out my post birth direction for this blog.

Baxk track almost 4 months...birth was, FORTUNATELT, BRIEF! Although I had no drugs, by the time it was time to push the princess out, all I felt was an overwhelming ball of pressure not pain.  My labor started Friday with mild contractions that led to a couple of hospital visits for false labor.  HOWEVER, early one Sunday morning (lol) ish got real & the pain showed no mercy! I left the hospital for the last time at about 7am on the 19th, went home to nap, awakened at about 9:30am wondering who was trying to kill me I was in so much rapidly progressing pain!

I arrived at the hospital around 10:40a & baby was born at 11:13am!!!

Needless to say the rest is happy history! I shall catch you up with my MOMformation! Stay tuned!

No, I cannot remember when I took the pictures.  It was sometime during the first week of January!  I was so excited!  It took me awhile to actually gain a belly from being pregnant.  Therefore, I am actually happy about the fullness of my belly and those wonderful "tiger stripes" on my hips.  Of course that isn't how I really feel about the stretch marks, but pregnancy is wonderul.  Mine has been awesome and easy!!  So, yes, the little girl I confirmed in the last post will be named Trinity Noelle after months of going back and forth with daddy about our name choices.

The clock is a ticking and we are down to the wire.  I am due between February 19th and 24th and every report has been a positive one.  My pregnancy has been easy as mentioned before.  For those things, I thank God because this can be a stressful time without the added stresses of difficulties.  I just can't wait to see, hold, smell, and love on my baby girl!!

Toooooo LONG!!

My last post was in October...WOW!  Hey, pregnancy will do that to ya!  Since then I have progressed to a now seven and a half months pregnant mommy to be!  Last month I had a 3D ultrasound done to show me the sex of the baby which we were desperate to find out and it's a GIRL!!!!!  YAAAAAY!!!! I hav always wanted a baby girl!  Not to mention I was excited because the daddy to be was hesitant to discuss names without knowing baby's sex...and now, well, he has a surplus of names and we STILL haven't locked in on a sure thing! SMH...MEN!

Anyway, as of now baby shower invitations have went out electronically and via postal mail for the shower date JANUARY 14TH *praying old man winter spares us any snow*

Anywho...above is a picture of my little lady sleeping on the placenta!  Awwwwww

Starting my registry!!

So with my third trimester quickly approaching in just a matter of a weeks, I have started my registry with myregistry.com!!  WOW!!  I did not anticipate that I would be so overwhelmed with that what to include in the registry!  I think there may be all of ONE item in there now LOL!!!  I'm going to get my mom to help me with that because I am super confused on what I absolutely need, how many I need because daddy is a long distance a way...should I request an extra whatever on the registry for him??  What can wait and of course I want feminine things for a little lady and masculine things for a little man, BUT the sex is still unknown!!! **tears**sad face**

I have had an easy pregnancy...LOL this is the only semi-stressful part!!

OMG!! There is a real little person in there!!

So I visited the doctor on October 5th for my 20 week checkup, and I was due for an ultrasound to check the baby's size, development, hear the heartbeat, and TRY to see the sex of the baby!  EXCITING right!?!?  Yes, always but baby was not having it and so the sex is still unknown!  On that day, baby was 15 ounces, moving about with a strong heartbeat, and is now due on VALENTINES DAY!!!! What a wonderful day to welcome new life?!!? I am actually hoping that Valentines Day will turn out to be the birthday & what do you know that is my mom and her twin sister's birthday!!

So, as it stands, we have yet to start the name discussion.  Daddy and I were waiting to learn the sex of the baby before starting that discussion, and it looks like we will have to wait a little longer...for now anyway!  It's SOOOO exciting to look at the sonogram now and see nose, mouth, arms, body, and it looks like this baby is shaping up to look just like daddy :(

So that is the update!  EXCITING STUFF!! Next appointment is November 2nd!!!  Stay tuned!!

BABY NAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!

So of course the naming of the baby will be the choice of me and daddy, BUT I want your help too!!!

Who has the best baby name? We don't know the sex yet so just hit me with your best choices for boys and **girls**!! We don't have cultural preferences or preferences for a specific letter or anything, but nothing weird like Apple LOL no offense Jewel!! Wasn't that her kid's name?!? Oh and nothing evil like Damian...meanings matter but they don't. They only matter if they have a known negative stigma attached to them...this is blessed baby so no EVIL OR BAD THINGS!! THANKS!

Pitter Patter of little feet is almost here...

My mom, in her quest to be the best grandmother ever, bought my first baby items!! It made my day...we are all so excited!! Thank you mommy *xoxo*

I hope to be a great a mother to my little BLESSING as she has been to my siblings and I!

19 weeks!!!

I'm 19weeks and 2days! I do have a baby bump now which the next post will show. What else has been going on? I went maternity shopping, been to see the doctor a couple times and baby's heartbeat is strong each time THANK YOU GOD!!! I mean, really, I'm just enjoying the second trimester with no sickness, little weight gain, and I feel little FLUTTERS here and there *YAAAAY #FISTPUMP. You know they say it's back to the DRAMA in the 3rd trimester LOL!!!! Its back to the doctor next Wednesday for a checkup and ultrasound so hopefully we can start brainstorming about what to call this little person after finding out the sex, but no matter what, boy or girl, we PRAY FOR a HAPPY & HEALTHY LITTLE ONE!! It has been an easy pregnancy by medical numbers, I am in the last week of my 4th month, but considering the two weeks added from the last menstrual cycle, I'm REALLY about 17weeks in practical numbers...Yea, calculate that, Memorial Day Weekend 2011 has definitely been memorialized around these parts!!!

Hope everyone is enjoying the new fall season...I can't wait 'til next fall to take pics of my little bundle in his/her first Halloween costume!!!! YES, I am sold!! becoming a mommy is a dream come true for me *xoxoxo* check me out at www.opinionofaglamchik.blogspot.com as well!!

12 Weeks!!!!!!

Hey followers and anonymous readers! I promised I would document my pregnancy and I am...I just wanted to at least reach the 3 month milestone mark BEFORE doing so. As you can see by the title of the post I am now 12 weeks, 3 months!!! As of yesterday Sunday, August 7, 2011 I am 12 weeks pregnant. I had a doctor's appointment this past Friday and it was amazing to see my baby inside of me, a little bigger, wiggling, very active, and not wanting to have his/her picture taken. Everytime the doctor tried to take a sonogram of the baby facing forward, the baby would turn away just as he decided to take the pic...LOL stubborn little one already!

Anyway, 3 months is great! I'm now able to look at the sonograms and point to the head, arms, hands, legs, feet, body...which is all still very tiny but there forming wonderfully and functioning properly! The 12 week mark has also meant another milestone for me. The first trimester blues seems to be ending and my energy is coming back; my days are more active, nights are longer, and nausea is ALMOST nonexistent, but I'm told that is for now until the dreaded 3rd trimester LOL!!

Anywho, since I realized I was pregnant, I have been receiving weekly email and alerts to my phone from www.babycenter.com (visit them) about the changes that are occuring with the baby weekly and other useful information regarding pregnancy. I thought since it has been so long, I would share what the alert said this week about the baby's development....

The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder. Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby's brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.

Again that was courtesy of the trusty babycenter.com!!!!

I look forward to those alerts every week!

I'm going to put the sonogram up a little later! It's going to be wonderful to see my baby grow from an image on a sono to a little person in a few months!!! Yayyyy!!!!

How am I really feeling???

sometimes, alot of times, I feel like this Kenny Chesney song "There Goes my Life." Nothing & noone could as accurately describe my fear, thoughts, apprehension like Mr. Chesney. Don't get me wrong, my happiness isn't a front but a child right now wasn't in MY plans for me, but I am not the predictor of my destiny. I'm ecstatic about the life growing inside of me. I'm overwhelmed with emotion actually, but some of that emotion is fear of the unknown.

Sonogram...follow up!!

Heyyy all!!

So as you all saw in a previous post, I've had my first sonogram done! That was taken on Wednesday June 29, 2011 and it revealed that I was 6 weeks, 3days pregnant with what seemed like a happy, very tiny baby...maybe girl?!?!? LOL but no, a baby, that so far seems very healthy!!

Anywho, that day I also received my prenatal vitamins because good mommies to be take vitamins along with a doctor's care, healthy diet! FAST FORWARD TO A WEEK AND TWO DAYS LATER >>>>>> I was at the doctor again to have a sonogram follow up, take another sonogram and receive some literature that should lead me on a path to a healthy, picture perfect pregnancy. {will have that sonogram up when I can steal it back from my mom}

Anyway, baby was less active this time, but that heart was beating uberSTRONG!! During this appointment, I According to the Babycenter website, the baby's "hands and feet are emerging from developing arms and legs." The baby has doubled in size, but is still very small. They compare the size of the baby to that of a blueberry (awwwww)!!!! The baby is still considered any embryo at this stage!

It was a brief doctor's visit, but I received a wealth of knowledge like what a healthy diet for a pregnant woman should be...which includes drinking a quart of milke a day!?!?!? A DAY!?!?!? LAWD, I am going to need some prayer to get through that one, chocolate milk maybe? Ugggh! Gotta do what I gotta do though, but milk is not my best buddy.

I also found out that it is okay for me to exercise just as I was before my pregnancy...WHOOOO HOOOO!!!!! I was too happy to find that out and wanted to go the gym as soon as possible. My doctor did make a note that activity of that nature will begin to taper off as baby develops more, but for right now...Elyptical here I come...**OPERATION MILF** LOL!*!*!*!*

To end it here, my next appointment is Friday August 5, 2011 at 11am...4 weeks away! I assume there will be many changes between now and then! Until then I will keep my followers updated on how i'm feeling, what i'm feeling, and the different changes expected from week to week. Tomorrow Sunday July 10, 2011 I will be 8 weeks preggers!!!!
